What is TMA?

TMA, acronym for  Talented Mauritian Artists, is originally a virtual group created on Facebook around November 2010 in a wish to gather artists of different talents and styles from the island of Mauritius, be they Traditional or Digital Artists, Body Artists, Photographers, Musicians, DJs, Singers, Dancers, Writers, Cooks, Craftsmen, Film or Animation Producers amongst others, in order to witness Mauritian ability and capacity to imagine and create!

Purpose of TMA

TMA seeks not only the best, but also the potential artists and art appreciators, where the latter can help the artists to improve by providing views and critiques. Thus, TMA aims at creating a platform where the artists can share their works, get feedback, improve, challenge their skills and become known locally and eventually internationally.

Growth and current situation of TMA

Since the creation of the group on Facebook in 2010, TMA has known a gradual growth in number of members and till date there are more than 430 members. Shortly after, to ease up management of photos of artworks submitted to the group (at that time there were no options for creating albums in a group), TMA has opened up its Facebook Fan page and the copies of the photos have been transferred by the administrator of the Fan page with the consent of the authors. In the meantime, the Mauritian-Artists group on deviantART has been launched by Sharonne Parfait, current founder of Mauritian-Artists.

The TMA website (the one you are currently viewing) was then constructed in 2011 to further gather and centralize the information on Mauritian artists, also to present the different activities organized within TMA.

In 2012, TMA is in affiliation with TCC, acronym for Tizil Creative Community, working in collaboration to help and promote local artists through more detailed comments and professional views and tutorials contained in the forum.

Facts about TMA:

  • It is not an officially registered organisation in Mauritius...yet
  • It has most of the members still attending colleges or universities
  • It has neither financial base nor aid
  • It is still searching for better ways to help and promote local artists
